The History of Our Logo

Two ancient milling symbols are brought together in the logo for the Saint Vincent Gristmill. The gray millstone is a rendition of the gridning surface of one of the fresh-water-quartz millstones at the Saint Vincent Gristmill. The gold Moline cross, or miller's cross, is superimposed above the stone. The cross is so called becasue its arms terminate in two expanded and curved branches resembling the extremities of a mill-rind, the iron which supports the upper millstone of a mill, and carries the eye which rests upon the end of the mill spindle. The stone and th cross bring to mind the words of Saint John's Gospel, "Unless a grain of wheat falls to the earth and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat. But if it dies, it yields a rich harvest." - John 12:24
